he original of this table is found in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Our hand carved replica features the same cabriole legs with claw-and-ball feet and an apron of dramatically carved acanthus leaves below a row of deeply veined leaves. The top is hand carved with a lower relief of beautifully scrolled acanthus leaves. It is oil-gilded in 22-karat gold.
A pier table is a side table originally designed to be placed against the wall between windows. The pier table was also frequently placed below a very tall mirror. This was a very common style of decorating in reception rooms of large 18th century houses.
Original pier tables of this type, in fair condition, have sold for upwards of $28,000.00 (Sotheby’s).
