his very fine and elegant piece, like all of the pieces in the David Scott Jordan Collection, is bench made and hand carved. It is topped with a piece of rare Portoro Extra Italian marble. Portoro Extra, deemed most desirable because of its numerous and strong gold colored veins denoted by the word “extra,” has been used on European holy temples and shrines since before Christ.

Portoro Extra was mined on an island off of the Italian Riviera, but over the centuries the supply has now been cut down to sea level. The Italian government has placed a ban on its mining, and now it is a very small but protected resource. Dario Orlandi, a good friend who is a third generation Italian marble supplier, searched diligently to find a very fine block for our collection. We were able to cut just four pieces from it to grace only four very special consoles.
