19th Century Regency Style Table with Glass Top

Jhis dramatic table features three
24-karat gold ormolu lion masks and 22-karat gold gilt-gesso on the trim and feet. It can be used as a gueridon with a 43" top, it can also be used as a dining table with a 60" diameter top, or two pedestals can be combined to create a rectangular dining or board table with a 110"x 50" glass top.

The Regency period was inspired by Napoleon’s invasion of Egypt in 1798 and the artistic culture of that exotic land. Shortly after Napoleon’s conquest, that same year Britain defeated Napoleon at the Battle of the Nile. This led to a craze in Britain of all things Egyptian and, in fact, of all foreign motifs — especially those of Greco-Roman influence.

The magnificent table in our collection is an interpretation of a century-piece built in the late 19th century to replicate the style of the most famous designer of the Regency period 100 years earlier: Thomas Hope.
